Yeah I've struggled with this, it's so tempting to just be like "well the stars don't want me to work today" but I'm pretty sure *I* want to work today so I'm going to go ahead and do that

I love this, boss assed bitch. You so naturally integrate here passion and reason in a gender sensitive, loving expression of some really heavy stuff. Be well and be loved.

I love Geminis. I hate Scorpios. Also, I don’t believe any of that nonsense either. Is that how we’re supposed to follow astrology? It somehow seems right and surprisingly common.

Laura Jedeed's avatar

It feels correct..... and yeah, nearly everyone I know approaches it the same way

I remember a friend's girlfriend was deep into astrology and was excited to tell me I have the serial killer combo of Sag and Libra... Something? Rising or moon? Googles says rising. Creeped me out but she loved it and always wanted to work with me. Not sure how I should take that.

I don't particularly believe in it but it is fun to talk about.

I'm about to head to Big Sur and sit where the forest meets the sea and smell pine and ocean and watch a storm roll in. Right now I'm watching the tide go out in Monterey. We all gotta do something to stay sane.

I kind of envy you. I was raised by atheists and have been one my whole life. I see how religious belief can be beneficial to people who believe it, and it took me a lot of rigorous introspection to get to a place where I can acknowledge that most people believe in these things I don't believe, without feeling a bit of smugness and condescension bubbling up from my subconscious, despite my intention to respect the difference. But I've finally gotten there in the last few years, and while I'm still an atheist, and probably always will be, I've learned to be genuinely humble enough to own that what I believe is just what fits the best for me, and other things fit better for other people. I am really intrigued by your ability to hold both approaches at the same time. There's a lot to be said for being willing to allow space for possibilities that can't be proven. I think that's my next growing edge.

Mull not kill. JFHC I hate that I don't proofread better!

Laura Jedeed's avatar

Proofreading is overrated (I tell myself every time I hit publish on a substack and immediately see an error I missed)

But ain't it so sweet that some people's flaws when offered here (Jedeed) are transformed into bejeweled assets.

I am forced by character and laziness to live with imperfection, though it's nice to blame it on large salt of the earth fingers that are too big for this fucking little device. And I won't get started on the substitutions by the matrix. Be well.

Hiya Lady! I'm going to kill this one over b4 I post a longer reply but as far as Biden losing tge popular vote but winning the electoral college I figure if it good enougb for Trump BIGLY tgen why not? I'm way more concerbed about the outcome of the Senate and the House frankly bc Trump with a GQP Congress Would be a horror show for the country IMO. And of courseBiden with a GQP Congress would probably be legislative gridlock but it's not like the GQP is exactly governing right now either.

Laura Jedeed's avatar

That's scary as hell, agreed: my one comfort is that basically every democrat is polling better than Biden so even if he goes down,we might hold onto the house and Senate. Here's hoping

Rick's avatar

There's many a slip 'tween the cup and the lip but as of now I feel like the House may well flip back D and the Senate flip back R with a slim difference much like now. Odds are not in favor of Trump being thrown off any ballots under the 14th amendment argument and I suspect he'll come out of his trials without jail time. That said SCOTUS and the Constitutional Convention scares me more in the long term along with Christofascists like Mike Johnson.

Thanks, love, for not ruining happy hour.

There is one candidate who has been filing in the Democratic primary in state after state, and I would image she even appreciates astrology.

Laura Jedeed's avatar

If she can pull this off it would be incredible

I think because because I grew up during the race to the Moon and watching Carl Sagan on Johnny Carson, I'm particularly averse to astrology. No judgement, just how I got here. I'm much more in tune with earthbound spirituality. For example, I once helped my wife end a panic attack by guiding her to and making her hold on to a large, ancient mangrove tree. I knew the tree was what she needed then. I also have pictures of a forest where I'm sure fairies live.

😂 Mars in Cancer here—loosely CONJUNCT SATURN! In the SEVENTH HOUSE! And Venus in Taurus! I feel seen! 🤣

Very much on the same page as you re: all this. The characterological and relationship parts are intriguing. (Why are all my Sagittarian friends overweight, extraverted, adventurous, and generous? Why does Aquarius seem to be a ragbag of one-off weirdos? Why do I keep being approach-avoidance attracted to difficult Cancers? See above.) The predictive part creeps me out. I don't want to have a predisposition or bias about what's coming because it'll be a self-fulfilling prophecy. I want to navigate by the seat of my pants/my intuition, not any external prompt.

We'll see. Me personally, I think worrying about polls a year out is a waste of time. Almost as much of a waste as arguing about counterfactuals.

Ben's avatar

"If the polls are to be believed, Trump is solidly ahead of Biden". Horserace journalism is stupid. Horserace punditry is stupider.

Biden just crushed the weird centrist & the weirder healing-crystals lady in New Hampshire. Harder than Trump crushed Neo-Con Barbie & Shortie McMeanMouth. WITH A FUCKING WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN.

Laura Jedeed's avatar

yeah, because the dem primary isn't an actual open primary, it's a coronation. This is like comparing apples to oranges to draw a conclusion about hamburger

Because I like you so much, Laura, I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and overlook this column. That being said, I did used to write a fake sex astrology column, and it was super fun. Completely made up and not to be used for unexplained calf pain.

Astrology does not jibe with reality. Neither does Religion, ESPECIALLY the patriarchal kind, which is the only kind that most people reading this know. Nonetheless, we are all free to believe what we "want". I'd like a world in which people change their preconceived notions based on evidence. We are far from that ideal, just look around you.
