Gods, I cannot express how pissed I've been these long years that my state voted out Feingold and voted in that embodiment of mealy-mouthed fascist-lite Ron Johnson.

Can't say I am surprised. Any man or woman to rise in this most criminal and corrupt endeavor called the U.S. Congress must be (a) simple of mind to the point of being "special needs", (b) easily controllable by lobbyists and special interests, and (c) well-dressed. Congrats on the Politico gig and thanks for the info on this particular bottom feeder, Johnson, who is living off our tax dollars working against the interests of the majority of his fellow citizens.

Great, informative, and terrifying article. Anything that fanatic Mike Farris is associated with, whether it's homeschool u. Patrick Henry college (incubator for "Christian" college students to go to law school, with it's incredibly diverse student population of 1 African American) or this christofascist wet dream COSA is not good news for rational, humane, and progressive humans. I can see this movement becoming the next Federalist society...and we see how the long game paid off for them. Yikes and ugggh!!!

Wow... well, we are Wholly Forked for sure. Very depressing, but vital info to have. Thank you, Laura

Great article. The Convention of States has become quite the fantasy dream of the Christian Right. Personally, I think that a COS anytime in the near future is likely to break down into disfunction like the current House. But assuming everything goes the way that the Christian Right wants, with delegates that don’t represent the population creating a new constitution that ensures minority rule by low population states, it still has to be ratified by the states. The current Constitution went into effect after it was ratified by 3/4 of the states IN THE STATES WHICH HAD RATIFIED IT. It did not apply to Rhode Island till Rhode Island ratified it. (Rhode Island was last.). If the COS says their new constitution goes into effect after a majority of the states ratify it, because they will want to rush it though with votes from small red states, I expect a bunch of big, blue states to say “have fun with that.” Given the precedent from 1787, I don’t see how the COS that conservatives envision, which will increase the power of states relative to the federal government, also results in unquestioned acceptance by large, blue states. The convention in 1787 only worked because of compromise, including giving us the Great Compromise. The people pushing a COS are not know for their ability to negotiate or compromise.

That's true, but if a COS produces some amendments (as opposed to a whole new constitution) then those amendments would apply to all states once ratified. And an amendment could change the ratification process, but it would have to pass the current ratification process before it could take effect.

Just read your excellent article and then bumped into another article wherein Johnson explains how the separation of church and state is "a misnomer" and Christian Nationalism is good, actually. So I'll be drinking heavily tonight, and I'll toast your well-deserved prominence on the news feed.

Thanks once again for scaring the shit out of me, Laura. Pretending to believe in an active deity, the founders pulled a fast one on the clerics in 1789, and the boyfuckers have been out for revenge ever since. They must be stopped.
