This was a bit of a downer compared to you Williamsburg article (which is terrific), but I suppose it needed to be said. I'd prefer to keep thinking about Joy and not the need to craft policy.
Playing devil's advocate, the best defense I can think of for not declaring policy specifics is that the media will immediately start picking them apart and publishing criticisms from GOP attack dogs. Meanwhile the NYTimes accepts the deportation of 10 million people as a serious policy to make more housing available. In the current media environment, neo-lib platitudes may be the safer strategy.
A well-written critique, Laura. I didn’t watch the interview but have seen clips. I figured it would be as you described. She’s as pragmatic as Obama, which was also disappointing.
Yes, it seems unionization is not only sweeping the nation but is doing so successfully. Kudos to all of them.
I love your ability to be brutally honest and point out truths we'd rather ignore.
I agree with your brain, it's amazing.
I will admit, that even with the deep unhappiness I feel towards their position on supporting Netanyahu's ethnic cleansing, I am doing all the things I can do, from my bed, to keep the momentum going and see her elected. Because, of course, the alternative is not an option. It feels gross a lot of times, but I don't know if I'll make it, if that crazy man wins, and project 2025 starts rolling out more quickly.
I can't vote for her after she has demonstrated repeatedly she has more respect for Republicans who will never vote for her than the not insignificant number of Democrats that either voted Uncommitted to show their distress with the ongoing genocide or even the Muslim Americans who WERE already organized for her, prior to her making her position clear. I'm simply not comfortable feeling like I gave the smallest amount of permission for this to continue. I also know that, in my state my general election presidential vote is meaningless because it always is. The winner gets all the electoral votes, no matter how close to even the general election results may be. And I don't know think this is the year that 50% of Kentuckians are going to vote Democratic. If everyone who CAN vote did, things would be different more than likely. The cities here just like everywhere are majority blue areas in a much less populated rural red state. I'm not certain the state would be controlled by the lunatic supermajority assembly it is if the districts weren't gerrymandered to the extent that they are. But again without more of the population participating and paying attention how will there ever be enough pressure to force change? It all feels very hopeless in every way to me.
Uncontrolled immigration benefits the ultra rich and is crushing the middle class. There, I said it. The left needs to wake up to this. And yeah, Harris is a warmongering neocon, just like the rest of the DNC machine. I’m done voting Dem.
S A M E I am disgusted that I will vote for her genocide dismissing giggles, but I can't stay on the couch with Cheeto Jesus being far worse.
This is so spot-on. Like you, I will definitely vote for Harris, but it won't really a vote *for* Harris so much as a vote *against* Trump.
