Not only should there be an open primary by party, there should be a single open primary for all candidates using ranked choice voting, with the top two facing each other in November.

That would be a FASCINATING exercise

Who are some candidates that you would like to see in the primaries? Not wanting endorsements in any way, but if you are saying No Biden and No Harris (at this point I have a hard time disagreeing with you on that) who would you like to see in the mix?

This one might surprise some people, but I'd like to see Marianne Williamson try another run. Orb Mom is the only person in the whole 2020 primary with the courage to back reparations onstage and I think she really understands the kind of spiritual crisis we're in.

If Fetterman's ephasia gets better, he's on my short list also

Amazing. Well said, very well written. I do worry a lot about Harris. But your arguments are very strong and I believe I’ve been swayed away from my hold the line position.

Agreed and seconded. Now we have to hope Biden has the sense left to do what he claims he wants. To do what's best for the country. Retirement.

I’d like to see Biden not run, but I’d also like him to drag it out. Let Republicans use him as a target for another six months and shorten the interminable pre-primary debates.

That wouldn't be the worst thing as long as the rest of the field knows it and has time to prepare. It's definitely time to float exploratory committees and kiss babies for would-be candidates

I'm not clear on all the political mechanics of it but, as I understand it, presidents don't like to announce ahead of time that they aren't seeking reelection because it makes them a lame duck for the rest of their term, and this somehow makes it harder for them to get anything done that they want to get done. LBJ waited until the end of March, 1968 (election year) to announce that he wouldn't seek reelection.

So, because I prefer hope and disappointment to a grinding, endless dyspepsia, I choose to believe that Biden secretly plans to step aside and the powers that be are quietly training Kamala to be an engaging human being and will unveil this creation in early 2024.

And while I'm at it, I'll just go ahead and believe that they're also recruiting and prepping other candidates (Tony Evers, or Michelle Grisham, or Jay Inslee, or someone) in case plan A doesn't work out.
