The people dislike the Republicans. They dislike the Democrats. We are now counting wins and losses by the metric…..well….they hate the other side more. The two party system is a sinking ship. It’s always the lesser of two evils. Who eggs this disaster on? The mainstream media. The only institution the people hate more.
I read Yang, and listened to Heather Cox Richardson's take, which i thought was nuanced, and makes good points. However, I still agree with Laura Jedeed that if you are going to make people suffer, they need to feel like it's worth something. People will sacrifice a lot if they feel their cause is just and they are fighting for something real. I think this just confirms the general sentiment that Democrats cave easily, which does not give them much bargaining power, now or in the future. Or as one person put it: "Republicans are good at doing horrible things and Democrats are horrible at doing good."
I don't like that the Democrats caved, but I've figured out that it's part and parcel of of our whole situation. If the Democratic party was run by leaders instead of poll followers and capitulaters, Trump would not have come to power in the first place. It's only because both parties were politically bankrupt that Trump could win in 2016. The Democrats need wholesale changes in leadership before they will inspire their base and become a credible opposition force.

I was as outraged as you are until I listened to Andrew Yang -- https://substack.com/home/post/p-178606589 -- and realized it's not so black and white.
How good for all of us it to be talking about fundamental things, which is the way of progress.
